Wastewater Treatment Plant, Sewer Collection System & Water Distribution Operator/Trainee

General Job Description
Must possess or be able to obtain the required skills, knowledge, and ability to operate and maintain 0.75MGD wastewater treatment plant and wastewater collection and water distribution systems serving 1,600+ connections.  Duties include monitoring booster pumping stations and elevated water storage tanks, inspecting sewer pumping stations and serving as on call technician for issues that may arise after hours and on weekends.  Reports to the Field Operations Supervisor.    
 
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
            Wastewater Treatment Plant

  • Monitor and adjust controls equipment.
  • Inspect and adjust waste stream screenings and grit removal.
  • Perform maintenance on equipment (changing oil, greasing, etc.)
  • Perform daily lab testing and recording of pH, turbidity and dissolved oxygen.
  • Collect wastewater samples and transport to the lab weekly.

 

            Wastewater Collection System

  • Inspect sewer pumping stations three times/week.
  • Perform daily inspection of vacuum sewer station.
  • Perform routine cleaning of equipment, grounds, and work areas.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment; assists in repair of equipment, including lift stations.
  • Perform repairs on wastewater lines, force mains and vacuum system equipment.

 

            Water Distribution System

  • Inspect booster pumping stations and elevated water tanks twice weekly.
  • Read water meters every three months.
  • Install water meters and services
  • Repair water lines.
  • Perform water sampling and transport to lab.
  • Perform flushing and valve exercising annually.

Minimum Training and Experience
Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent.  One to two years of experience in wastewater treatment is preferred.  Preferred candidate must possess a minimum class “D” Biological Wastewater Operator license with the South Carolina Environmental Certification Board or the ability to obtain license within one (1) year of employment.  A valid driver's license also required.
